There is quite a bit to say about The Twenty-Year Death, because it is actually three books in one. When I received this book, I was a bit overwhelmed. The hardcover version is 670 pages long, and though I don’t generally get scared away from book lengths, this one but seemed bigger than its page count.

The second novel in the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences takes a few chapters to get on track but, once it does, it is a peculiarly good book. Having read Phoenix Rising, I was excited to read the second installment of the adventures of Eliza Braun and Wellington Books. Plus it helps that both characters are named in that over descriptive pulpy way that I love so much.

I am not a huge proponent of reality shows, particularly on SyFy, but I made an exception for Collection Intervention, which debuted Tuesday night. The show is essentially a geekier, far less depressing version of Hoarders… perhaps this is because geeks are inherently less depressing.

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with fantasy books. As a small Grymmish child, my first introduction to fantasy novels was the Narnia books. In fact, I still have that original set of seven novels. How they have not rotted away to nothing by now is either magic in its own right or evidence for my kind treatment of my beloved reading material.

Every year, the big four (and their kid brother, the CW) announce what shows have been picked-up and which shows have been cancelled during the annual “Upfronts,” where they pitch their fall slate to advertisers. It seems like each year…

It’s been a long, cold winter. The Geek Life farms were hit particularly hard with a poor turnout of crops since no one accepted our pleas for help and requests for cattle as farming is so MySpace right now. But thankfully our stables were kept nice and warm thanks to our Arc Reactor, and that means the Geek Life Competition Stalk is ready to fly some awesome swag right to your door!

The works of Joss Whedon may be incredibly, sometimes annoyingly, popular with us denizens of the internet, but one aspect of this fan community that many outsiders are unaware of is how studied his work is in the academic community. You may think I should put “studied” in sarcastic quote marks, but I can’t think of a single TV show other than Buffy the Vampire Slayer that…

I don’t think I’ve made it a secret that I play World of Warcraft. I have rules surrounding when and how I play, such as giving myself a time limit every night, raiding once a week instead of five times a week, “Real Life Comes First”, and never buying any of the pets and mounts in the store. I spend $15 each month on WoW, and I get my money’s worth. This isn’t about balancing an MMO in your real life budget. This is about what you can learn about economics and budgeting within the game and how it mimics real life.
