There is quite a bit to say about The Twenty-Year Death, because it is actually three books in one. When I received this book, I was a bit overwhelmed. The hardcover version is 670 pages long, and though I don’t generally get scared away from book lengths, this one but seemed bigger than its page count.

The second novel in the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences takes a few chapters to get on track but, once it does, it is a peculiarly good book. Having read Phoenix Rising, I was excited to read the second installment of the adventures of Eliza Braun and Wellington Books. Plus it helps that both characters are named in that over descriptive pulpy way that I love so much.

This book is tough to classify and tougher to start reading! To put it bluntly, this is an oddly outstanding piece of literature. I have had this book loaded onto my iPad for a few months, and I started reading it as soon as. I downloaded it and, to be honest, didn’t think I would like it – actually, I didn’t know if I could even comprehend it.

The first few pages of this story left me wondering what the book was about and why should I keep reading it. I left it at that. Those first few pages left me feeling the way a teenaged boy feels when he gets caught looking down girls shirts…
